When large rocks need to be removed from mining and construction projects, controlled rock drilling and blasting is an effective technique utilized to break up the stones in a regulated fashion. A drill is firstly used to make holes in the rock, into which explosives are placed. Upon detonating the explosive charge, the rocks split into much smaller pieces.
When standard tactics such as a sledgehammer don’t prove to be useful, this process is usually implemented. It also comes in handy when it’s not possible to bring in heavy equipment, as the risk of collapse may be too great.
Controlled rock drilling and blasting prove to be an incredibly advantageous process due to its productivity in breaking up large rocks and providing a safe environment for operations. Doing the work from a distance eliminates the potential of any harm to workers, allowing for an environment with little threat of danger.
Rock drilling and blasting offer a unique flexibility that allows the creation of an array of rock shapes and sizes. This is made possible by placing the explosives strategically within the drilled holes, allowing broken rocks to be crafted to any desired form.
Although it is a reliable and effective mining technique, rock drilling and blasting comes with a significant cost. Such expenses include not only the explosives for the process but also the required equipment, which contributes to the expense of the entire operation. This is besides the matter of time which is required to place the explosives in the holes that have been drilled.
Although there may be a large price tag involved, rock drilling and blasting with regulation is a powerful procedure for fragmenting rocks. It is a secure and economical practice that can yield a wide variety of rock sizes and shapes.
