cp14 rock drill

Holes in rocks, large or small, can be created with ease by utilizing a rock drill. Primarily used to house the planting of seeds in rockscapes, this implement can also cut through thick, rugged surfaces to create extensive tunnels. What’s more, rock drills can be powered in a variety of ways – electricity, compressed air, or hydraulic power – providing for maximum versatility in its applications.

Just over 280 years ago, a pioneering French miner first employed a hand-powered rock drill to launch the era of controlled explosives. In the early 19th century, the invention of steam engines drove the subsequent enhancement of rock drills. Then, almost a half-century later, in 1848, a compressed air-powered drill provided an additional improvement. Finally, in 1876, humanity achieved another great feat in engineering when the first hydraulic rock drill was devised.

From pin drills for minuscule holes to drift drills for cavernous ones, rock drills are categorized by the scope of their drilling capabilities. Pin drills generate openings of less than 1 cm in diameter while the largest of the bunch, drift drills, can create openings exceeding 1.5 m in breadth.

With precision and speed, a rock drill bit whirs as it carves a hole into the rock’s surface. This chisel-shaped tool rotates swiftly, creating a space of whatever size depending on the size of the bit. The process is then repeated, creating tunnel after tunnel with each revolution of the drill.

To facilitate the process of mining, some rock drills have an extra advantage of getting into hard rocks with the help of their hammering action – these drills are known as “jackhammers.”

Drilling with a bit generally requires a revolution count between 100 and 200 per minute, usually weighing in at about 30-50 kilograms.

For all of your tough drilling needs, rock drills prove to be an excellent tool. They provide small-scale operations with the ability to tackle hard-to-reach spots like pebble-strewn areas while also allowing the user to plant seeds or construct gaps inside of particularly dense rocks.

When selecting a rock drill, several elements must be taken into account such as the material it will pierce, the power source, its velocity, the weight of the unit and the size of the drill bit. These are important considerations when making any stone drilling decision.
