To burrow a hole in sandstone, a hammer and chisel are necessary tools. Start by sketching out the desired outline onto the rock’s surface with a pencil. Tap away at the middle of it with your hammer to create an initial depression. Put on your safety goggles to guard against particles released while chiseling. Afterward, artfully chip away at the edge of the indentation, adhering to the marked line. With patience and skill, your work will soon be complete!
Your chisel’s work of transforming rock will kick up a cloud of dust. To protect your lungs from its particles, have on hand a dust mask. Furthermore, it’s a good idea to work in an area with optimal air flow – either outdoors or with plenty of ventilation.
After carving the rough outline of your desired opening, take a hammer to any pointed corners that linger. To create a more polished end result, put your file or sandpaper to work and soften up the edges of that newly-created space.
After you have prepared the sandstone rock, it is time to bring out the drill bit. Make sure that the chosen bit is smaller than the size of the hole you intend to make. Be steady and patient with your drilling, and maintain consistent pressure. If you notice that the drill bit has started to overheat, pause for a few moments for it to cool off before resuming the work.
When you’re operating a drill, a substantial amount of dust will be produced. To protect your respiratory system from these particles, you should never forget to put on a dust mask. It is also much wiser to perform the task outdoors or in an area with ample ventilation.
The work is done; you have penetrated the rock with your drill to the other side. Now, take out the drill bit and sweep away the rubble it has created. Essentially, you have just made a hole through a sandstone rock! A big ‘Well done!’ is in order.
