To drill into stone, a rotating bit of steel or tungsten is attached to an electric motor and driven forth. The bit is rotated quickly, and the motor gradually pushes it further into the rock; gradually boring into it until reaching the targeted depth. It’s a process of chiseling holes in stones that has been around for a long while.
